Meet Tamarah Kronaizl, interior designer and Realtor
I am Tamarah Kronaizl, the designer and Realtor behind Tamtam Design & Realty. I have been designing homes since 2011, making them work better and feel like the people who live in them. I am also a licensed Realtor, so I think about a home as a place to live and as an investment at the same time. Most of my work is here in Elkhorn and across the Omaha metro, with clients who are building, remodeling, settling in, or getting ready to sell.
Design first, and a license since 2013
I started in interior design and never left it. Along the way I earned my Associate membership with the American Society of Interior Designers, the professional body that sets the standard for the field. In 2013 I became a licensed Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Ambassador Real Estate. Design is still the heart of what I do. Real estate grew out of it, because clients kept asking me the same questions about value, staging, and selling, and I wanted to give them real answers rather than send them elsewhere. Doing both means I can guide a project through the design and through the sale itself.

What does an interior designer do?
A lot more than picking colors, though that is the part most people picture. Interior design is about creating a space that looks beautiful and functions beautifully for the way you actually live.
Before anything gets purchased, I think through how you move through a room, how the space will be used, what stays and what goes, and how every element works together. Depending on the project, that can include space planning, cabinetry and built-ins, lighting, flooring, tile, countertops, paint, wallpaper, plumbing fixtures, furniture, window treatments, art and accessories.
For remodels and new construction, I can help develop the design from the ground up, creating layouts and renderings, selecting finishes and materials, and coordinating the design details with contractors and trades. For furnishing projects, I source furniture, lighting, rugs, art and accessories, including pieces available exclusively to the design trade.
I handle the parts that can quickly become overwhelming: the layouts, selections, sourcing, purchasing, coordination, deliveries, installation and final styling. I also help keep the project organized, on schedule and mindful of the budget.
The goal is to take hundreds of individual decisions and turn them into one cohesive home, one that feels intentional, personal and designed specifically for the way you live.

Working with your contractor
How the coordination runs depends on the project. Sometimes I work with the trades directly. More often I work with your contractor, who takes my information and passes it along to the trades. Either way the design details get where they need to go, and you are not the one relaying them. If you need a contractor for a remodel or a new build, I can recommend people I have worked with and trust to do the job well.
The difference between a designer and a decorator
People use the words interchangeably, and there is real overlap, but they are not quite the same. A decorator focuses on the look: the furniture, the color, the finishing touches on a space that already works. A designer starts earlier, with how the space itself functions, and can take on layout and the harder structural decisions, which matters on a remodel or a new build. I do both, because most homes need both. Working out which one your project actually calls for is part of the first conversation.

Why design and real estate belong together
Most people treat buying a home and designing it as two separate jobs, handled by two different people who never talk. I do both, so they line up. When you are selling, I stage and style with a Realtor's read on the market and then handle the listing. When you are buying, you get a designer's eye on what a house could become, which changes what you are willing to offer and why. And when you are simply making your home better, every choice is made by someone who knows what holds its value over time.
How I work with clients
I keep it personal. You work with me, not a rotating team, and I tailor every project to your home, your budget, and how you live day to day. I would rather do a smaller number of projects well than rush through a lot of them. I will also tell you honestly when something is not worth the money, or when a simpler fix gets you most of the way there.
